Hey! It's Kay, MD

Hi! I'm Kay — wife, pediatrician, and the creator of the curly hair campaign revolutionizing the healthcare industry. A proud South Carolina native (Go Gamecocks!) now thriving in the vibrant city of Chicago, I spend most of my days as a physician in the pediatric critical care unit at Advocate Children’s Hospital.

My journey to becoming a hair equity consultant was as unexpected as it was fulfilling. Picture this: you're working in a field where the majority of people don’t look like you. You’ve made it this far with the support of family, friends, and incredible mentors. Determined to give back, you become a residency program director, helping rising pediatricians match and navigate residency. You organize pipeline programs for inner-city youth, champion health equity through fairs and curriculum development, and tirelessly advocate for cultural sensitivity in healthcare.

Amid all this, you find a passion project that feeds your soul: helping patients with hair like mine manage their hair while in the hospital. What started as a small plastic bag filled with travel-sized hair products blossomed into a full-fledged movement — and even landed me in Essence magazine.
