about me!

Why Now?

Because you can’t build something meaningful without showing up. In today’s world, people want to see you. They want to hear your voice. And I get it. I do. But here’s the truth—social media never quite felt like the place for me to do that. Who’s watching? Is this perfect? The moment passed before I even hit post—probably because it didn’t feel authentic to me in the first place. As a Black physician, I've tried to show up “on trend,” seeking likes and follows to build my brand as a children's book author and advocate for hair equity. But it never sat right with me. And to those who do it well? I love to see it. We need you. You're doing amazing work. But what I needed was something different. A space where I could be transparent. A space that didn’t depend on an algorithm—a space where I could share everything I’m doing, like my functional medicine practice, without pressure, without the performance. Someplace optional. So if you’re here, it’s because something brought you here—and that already feels better. Here, I can share a win without worrying it sounds like a brag, or a challenge that requires a kind of vulnerability that just doesn’t fit on an app. Basically—I needed a lane. My own lane. This is it. So if it’s not your vibe, it’s okay to exit here. But if it is… Welcome to this Kay-otic space I call life.

Pediatric Critical Care Physician

As a Black physician, I care for children during some of the most critical moments of their lives. In my role as a PICU physician, I manage complex illnesses, support families through uncertainty, and advocate fiercely for my patients. This intense, emotional, and incredibly meaningful work inspires me to share my experiences as a children's book author, aiming to empower young readers. I also believe in promoting hair equity, which is why I developed a curly hair kit that celebrates diverse textures. Additionally, my interest in functional medicine drives me to explore holistic approaches for improving health outcomes. I wouldn’t trade this fulfilling journey for anything.

As a Black physician and children's book author, writing my first children’s book has been a joyful extension of my work in advocacy and functional medicine. Inspired by real experiences, my stories aim to celebrate representation, comfort young readers, and spark meaningful conversations about hair equity and identity. This is just the beginning, and I’m excited to keep creating books and even a curly hair kit that reflect the beauty and diversity of the kids I care for.

Small Business Owner

As a Black physician and children's book author, I’m passionate about creating space for intentional living, functional well-being, and whole-person care. I believe wellness should be accessible, affirming, and rooted in real-life experiences, and I feel I have something meaningful to add to this space. Through coaching, community, and care, I’m committed to helping others live with more clarity, balance, and purpose. Additionally, I advocate for hair equity and offer a curly hair kit that aligns with my mission of promoting functional medicine and holistic health.

Journey to Hair Equity

My journey to becoming a hair equity advocate as a Black physician was as unexpected as it was fulfilling. Picture this: you're working in a field where the majority of people don’t look like you. You’ve made it this far with the support of family, friends, and incredible mentors.

Determined to give back, you become a residency program director, helping rising pediatricians match and navigate residency. You organize pipeline programs for inner-city youth, champion health equity through fairs and curriculum development, and tirelessly advocate for cultural sensitivity in healthcare.

Amid all this, you find a passion project that feeds your soul: helping patients with curly hair like mine manage their hair while in the hospital. What started as a small plastic bag filled with travel-sized hair products, which I like to call my curly hair kit, blossomed into a full-fledged movement. This initiative even caught the attention of Essence magazine and inspired me to write a children’s book that promotes self-love and acceptance. Through my work in functional medicine and advocacy, I am committed to empowering others and ensuring that hair equity becomes a reality.
